Obituary for Gerald Everett Williams Sr.

Gerald Everett Williams, Sr., was born on June 18, 1931 to Thomas Alexander Sr. and Vivian Robinson Williams in Jacksonville, Florida. He was educated in the local public schools in Jacksonville. Gerald received a Bachelor of Science Degree, from Pepperdine University. He attended B.F. Lee Seminary and served in the United States Army from October 1948 and retired April 30, 1973, serving in the Korean War (1950-1951). Gerald was united in Holy Matrimony to Myrtle Beard of Columbia, South Carolina on April 1, 1950. This adoring union lasted 65 years. To this union five children were born, Shirley, Ann, Gerald (Atiba) Jr., Dawnn, Kevin and Vivian.

After retiring from the Army Gerald worked with the United States Civil Service retiring in 1995. He was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (1985) retiring in 2004. After his retirement he was located at the Greater Grant Memorial AME Church, where he served as an associate minister.

Gerald leaves to cherish his memories five children, Shirley Ann of Jacksonville, FL, Atiba Gerald E. Williams, Jr. (Donna) Kojo of Tallahassee, FL, Dawnn of Oakland, CA, Kevin (Elizabeth) Williams of Los Angeles, CA and Vivian (Anthony) Burns of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Lance (Laura) Burns of Miami, FL, Kwanaiya Marshall of Miami, FL, Uchefuna Kojo of Lakeland, FL, Uzabakilio Kojo of Gainesville, FL, Ukurugenzi Kojo of Tallahassee FL, Briana Williams, Grant Williams both of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchild, Mackenzie Marshall; brother, Thomas A. (Brenda) Williams Jr. of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Joseph, Ruth Beard and Louise Beard; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Rev. Gerald Everett Williams, Sr. will be held 10:00 am FRIDAY, February 9th, 2018 at the Greater Grant Memorial A.M.E. Church, 5355 Gilchrist Rd. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00 pm, THURSDAY at the mortuary. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 11:30 am, Monday, February 12, 2018 .
