Obituary for Willie Lee Glanton

Rev. Willie Lee Glanton was born in Headland, Alabama on the 13th day of August in 1938, to the most loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack and Marie Glanton. He was the 2nd of 11 children. Willie accepted Christ at an early age. Rev. Willie Lee Glanton entered ministry in the 1960’s and was later ordained as a minister. He served as a pastor for New Mt. Olive Baptist Church for nearly 40 years.

Rev. W. L. Glanton served as Moderator of Union St. James Baptist Association for 12 years. He was Honorary Moderator of Union St. James. He served as General Secretary of Florida General Baptist Convention, Inc. for 13 years under the leadership of the past President Rev. Henry J. Lyons. Rev. Glanton was one of the original members of the “Posse” of Union St. James. At the end of each Annual Session, the “Posse” would gather and form a circle, sing a song, have a prayer and would close the circle with hugs.

Rev. W. L. Glanton departed this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his beloved wife, Bettye Glanton; stepson, Wayne Nellons and his brother, Johnny Glanton.

Rev. W. L. Glanton leaves to mourn his demise: loving children, Sheila Smith (Perry), Wilbert Lee Kelly, Sherell E. Shako (Mark); loveable grandchildren, Sierra Jade Scarlett, Symone Marisa Shako, Sydney Mariah Shako, Barry Scott and Tequila Scott; his beloved siblings, Annie Alexander, Eddie Lee Glanton (Pearl), Samuel Glanton, Sr. (Marion), David Glanton (Maxine), Annie Esther Evans, Willie Earl Glanton, Mae Ruth Lawson (Nathaniel), Christine Graham and Linda Jackson of Atlanta; stepmother, Mrs. Mattie Glanton; uncle, Wilbert Glanton of Dothan, Alabama; aunts, Jessie Mae McNealy of Headland, Alabama and Jimmie Lee Davis of Newbill, Alabama; he also leaves to cherish his memories a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and dearest friends.
