Obituary for Elmer Griffith Jr.

Elmer Griffith, Jr. affectionately known as “Jr.” to his siblings and “Elmer Fudd” to his friends. He was born on February 21, 1962 to the late Elmer Griffith, Sr. and Essie M. Griffith in Jacksonville, Florida.

Elmer attended the local public schools in Duval County which included R.L. Brown Elementary, Sherwood Forest Elementary and Highlands Middle School, graduating from Jean Ribault High School.
Elmer was a member of the National Honor Society, the football team and swim team. After graduation he attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

At the age of 13, Elmer accepted Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Oakland, under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles B. Dailey.

Elmer enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 20, where he proudly served his country. Elmer was employed for 17 years with the North Florida Shipyard as a Material Handler Supervisor.

Elmer departed this life on Saturday, May 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald W. Quaintance.

Elmer leaves to cherish his memories: loving children, Shamicka Griffith, Sharicka Preston (Rontez) and Omar Griffith; brothers, Herbert Quaintance (Shirley), Herman Quaintance (Sheryl), Charles Quaintance (Sharon), Lester Quaintance and Bobby Quaintance (Kimberly); sisters, Esther Q. Ashley, Rosemary Bradwell (Leslie) and Angela Denise Odom (John); grandchildren, Trinity Preston and Peace Preston; and a host of other relatives and friends, including the mother of his children, Nortina Williams-Griffith.
