Obituary for Charlie Smith Sr.

Charlie was born on May 8, 1944 to the late Walter Lee Smith, Sr. and Louvinie Battle Smith in Americus, Georgia. He attended Corinth High School. Charlie was united in holy matrimony to Linda Smith in Folkston, Georgia on April 30, 1977.

Charlie departed this life on Thursday, November 1, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Charchanetta Smith and brother, Walter Smith.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Linda M. Smith; children, Charlie Smith, Jr., Alecia Smith; stepdaughter, Felecia Green (Terrence) and Joya Robinson; brothers, Dan Smith (Lorraine) and Horace Smith; sisters, Annie Smith and Pula Woods; brother-in-law, Spencer L. Everett; sister-in-law, Wanda Stephens; aunts, Minnie Battle and Priscilla Riley; uncle, Johnny Smith; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a good friend, Marvin Sanders.

When someone we love dies, it can be helpful to reflect on the power Jesus was given when on earth, When his friend Lazarus died, Jesus told his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has fallen asleep, but I am traveling to awaken him.” Later he said to them plainly: “Lazarus has died.” If Jesus, as a perfect man on earth, was able to restore Lazarus’ life, we can put faith in his ability to resurrect, bring back to life, all those in the Grave on the last day. He will do this as God’s anointed King of his Messianic Kingdom. (John 5:28-29; John 11:20-24; Matthew 6:9-10). It is our responsibility to greet Charlie when he awakes from death. The prospect is ours if we exercise faith in the ransom. (John 3:16). Be assured, this blessing can be ours!

I am so sorry for your loss. My very sincere condolences to the family. The Bible is a source of true comfort during this very difficult time.

Revelation 21:4 states, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

The Bible provides a real hope of being reunited with your loved one. (John 5:28, 29). Jehovah hates death; he views it as an enemy. (1 Corinthians 15:26) He has a longing to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection. He yearns to bring back those in mankind common grave and to see them live on earth again. (Job 14:14,15).
