Obituary for Elijah Timmons
Mr. Elijah “Geech” Timmons was born on November 1, 1931 in Kings Ferry, Florida to the late Mr. Robert (Sr.) and Mrs. Leila Timmons. Elijah was the youngest of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Timmons. He received his early education in the public schools of Nassau County. Elijah accepted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age. Elijah was a loyal and dedicated worker of 42 years at the Dunn Tire Company and the Benton Brothers Film Company. Elijah met and fell in love with Johnnie Nadine Hudson the love of his life. They were married on June 18, 1954. From this union four beautiful children were born: Marilyn, Gary, Regina, and Dayatra (DeeDee). They were married for 45 years. Elijah and Nadine were devoted members of the Church of Christ where they raised their children in the church. At the time of his death, Elijah was a faithful member of Northside Church of Christ under the Leadership of Brother Charlie McClendon.
Elijah was a devoted husband and father who provided for his family. He was known as the “Veggies and Produce Man” in the Jacksonville area. He enjoyed giving and selling fruit to his friends and family. Those who knew and loved him attest to the fact that he was a pillar of his community. On the night of January 6, 2019, God picked one of his precious flowers from his garden to take home to rest. Elijah Timmons (age 87) answered the call of our Heavenly Father at his earthly home to go to his heavenly home.
Elijah was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Nadine Timmons; his parents, Robert and Leila Timmons; his sisters, Agnes Timmons, Betty Herring, and Thelma Clover; and his brothers, Isaac Timmons, Robert Timmons, James Timmons, George Timmons, and Adolphus Timmons.
Elijah leaves a loving family to cherish his memory: his loving children, Marilyn Kee, Gary Timmons (Jackie), Regina Timmons, His pride and joy caregiver, (his baby girl Dayatra “DeeDee” Timmons); sisters-in-law, Helen Timmons and Cora Lee Timmons; brother-in-law, Leroy Hudson (Vera); 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; godsons, Trey Hampton and Brother Lionel Williams; as a son, Cleveland Clinch; special friends, Velma Tuff, Ruby Smith, Arthur Sumlar, and Verna Sumlar.
We shall end this with his favorite quote, “You got that right.”
The funeral service for Elijah Timmons will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 12th, 2019 at the Northside Church of Christ 4736 Avenue B. Jacksonville, Florida 32209. The visitation will be 2:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, January 11th, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries.
