Obituary for Robert Riley Jr.

Robert Riley, Jr. was born on February 15, 1954 to Robert Riley, Sr. and Ida Riley in Miami, Florida. Robert was affectionately known as “Marble Eye” and after moving to Jacksonville, Florida later adopted the name “Coach”. He attended The Bethel Church in Miami, Florida. Coach attended Miami Killian High School and received his diploma. He later attended Florida Memorial University where he received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Coach had a passion for the game of basketball. In the mist of pursuing his degree he had the opportunity to play pro basketball in Argentina.

Coach was employed with the Duval County School System as a teacher/coach where several students went on to the NFL and NBA. He was a dedicated teacher and loved his students. Coach retired after 37 years of service. He will be truly missed by his family.

Coach departed this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Riley, Sr. and Ida Riley; sister, Jeanette Harden.

Coach leaves behind his fiancée Eldora Baker; daughters, Tuwana Riley, Cynthia Brummage (Rodric), Latonya Shannon and Chantrell Riley; brother, John (Johnny) Strachan; sisters, Annie Manuel and Cynthia Lawson (Edward); special nieces, Patricia Pruitt (Thomas), Audrey Harden, Felicia Dimanche (Ernst); grandchildren, Arthur Washington, Alexis Johnson, Anthony Washington, Armon Richardson, Raven Brummage, Rayshel Brummage, Ariyon Riley, Ashanti Miller and Caleb Riley; great-granddaughter, Ava Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Robert Riley, Jr. will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, Florida 32206. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Caballero Rivero Dade South.
