Obituary for Geneva Smart Thomas

Geneva Smart Thomas
Geneva “G-Ma” Smart Thomas was born Baby Ruth Smart on Tuesday, August 13, 1935 at 12:15am in Nahunta, Georgia to Ms. Lilla Mae Smart. She was lovingly given the legal name of ‘Geneva’ by her uncle Rayfield Smart.

Geneva worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomist at St. Vincent's Medical Center and retired in 1998 after over 20 years of dedicated service. The words love, sacrifice, and faith describe how Geneva lived her life and showed care and concern for her family and friends, as well as members of the community.

Geneva was a born again Christian who loved the Lord. She lived her life sharing her love and faith in God with everyone she encountered. She became a Missionary at The House of Worship, under the leadership of the late Evangelist Irene Gamble before uniting with Elder Billy Brock at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Later, in 2001, she joined Open Arms Christian Fellowship, within the Tribe of Asher, under the leadership of Bishop Leofric Thomas. She was a faithful member of the WINGS and Pacesetters Ministry until her health began to decline.

After giving herself untiringly to others, Geneva received her eternal rest on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10:34 pm.  Her mother, uncle and older brother Ishiah Williams (Uncle Jr.) preceded her in death.

Geneva leaves to cherish her memory and keep her spirit alive, her children, Don Earl Thomas, Raneldia Jean Thomas, and H. Lynette Brooks (David—Ret. USN); grandchildren, Shannon Thomas (LaDawna), Malcolm Thomas, Donnetta Thomas, Don E. Thomas Jr., Jordan Jolly, and Gen’Navia Jolly; great-grandchildren, Brandon R., Kamiah, Deanna, Malcolm Jr, Olesha, Brandon J., Karleek, Taylor, Madisyn, Isaiah, Zachariah, Dionni, and Myles; “god-daughter”, Maybell Murphy; “grand-daughter”, Tameka Gray; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, Grand Park Community Members, Open Arms Family, and “adopted” and natural family members throughout the United States.
