Mamie Jimmie (Gray) Dixon affectionately known as “Muh”, was born to the late Herman and Delcena Gray on November 17, 1926 in Montgomery, Alabama. Muh attended the public schools and college in Alabama receiving an AA Degree in Business. Mamie worked for Tuskegee Institute recording flight records for the Tuskegee Airmen, She was also employed with BCBS for 23 years, where she retired. Muh was baptized at Holt St. Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama. After moving to Jacksonville, Florida she continued her religious affiliation with Westside Church of Christ as a faithful worker. During Muh’s earlier years, she married Roosevelt D. Dixon in 1946.
On Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 3:00 PM, God called Muh to rest. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roosevelt; sister, Annie; a son, John Charles Dixon; and a grandson, Derek. Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her children, family and friends.
Muh leaves to cherish her memories a devoted son, Herman Dixon (Glory); faithful daughters, Sallie Vonn Ponder (James), Gloria Dixon, and Angelia James; sisters-in-law, Sallie Dixon Smith and Arie Lee Dixon; loving cousins, Catherine English (Richard) and Donald Jackson both of Atlanta, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, Sonya, Rick, Candace, Janada, Herman, Marcus, Josh, Bert, Cedric, Tissha, Dominique, and Brittany; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces (Mary Orr); nephews; cousins; her church family; friends; and a special friend/daughter, Valerie Rodgers.
The funeral service for MAMIE JIMMIE DIXON will be held 12:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY, at the Northside Church of Christ, 4736 Avenue B. The visitation will be held 5 - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, at the mortuary.
