Obituary for Charlene Yvette Lundy

Charlene Yvette Lundy
Charlene Yvette Lundy, 50, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 due to complications related to her battle with metastatic breast cancer at UF Health Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

The youngest of three sisters, Charlene was born on March 8, 1967 in Jacksonville, FL to her loving parents Charles Avery and Grace Marie “Bootsie” Lundy, who preceded her in death. She spent most of her childhood in Fernandina Beach, Florida. In 1985, Charlene received her high school diploma from Fernandina Beach High School and enlisted in the United States Army immediately after graduation. Charlene spent five years abroad serving her country. After completing her military service, she pursued and obtained her Nursing degree from Florida State College of Jacksonville. An avid lifelong learner, she continued to advance her knowledge as a Registered Nurse through training and multiple certification programs.

Charlene exemplified the qualities of a Nurse and considered her work sacred. Her career was spent working with some of the most respected healthcare providers in the city, most notably: St. Luke's (Mayo Clinic) Hospital, UF Health Hospital and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

She was a nurturing and fierce friend to many with a deep love for soul music, pretty dresses, fancy perfumes, romance, and good seafood. She was a member of New Birth Community Church, with Pastor Gary C. Oldham, where she served with the Women in Action Ministry to manage the church’s food pantry. When diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, Charlene remained dedicated to her family, friends, and strong in her will to enjoy life. She was an intelligent, iron-willed woman who was vocal and self-determined- even until her final moments.

Charlene is survived by her daughters, Avery Tanae Brewton and Alexis Iana Denise Shoemaker; her siblings, Darlene Denise Berkeley and Chauncey Averia Douglas; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many dear friends whom she loved like family.

Please join us in celebrating her life on the morning of Friday, August 4th for the Celebration of Life and Love Exhibit at 11:00 AM at the Bob Hayes Sports Complex and Legends Center for a homegoing service and reception to follow. All are welcome and encouraged to wear bright colors and bring photo memories or mementos of Charlene to add to the exhibit.
