Obituary for Leola Hamilton

Leola Hamilton
Leola Hamilton was the oldest of two children born to the late Maggie Jacobs and Bennie Warshaw on February 4, 1927 in Savannah, Georgia. She was educated in Chatham County Public Schools. Leola was a graduate of Beach High School. She pursued a nursing degree from Savannah State College as a Registered Nurse. Leola Married Frank Hamilton, Sr. and together they had six children. Shortly after moving to Jacksonville, Florida, Leola embarked on a new journey by returning to college and graduating from EWC and Florida AM with a Bachelor’s Degree in education, teaching students with special needs.

Leola was employed by the Duval County Public School System in Jacksonville, Florida for 27 years. She was innovative and dynamic in the classroom infusing her students with tremendous motivation and instilling in them an appetite for the joy of learning. This she gave without reservation, unselfishly and without condescension. Leola was a person of moral principle, grace and polish. She was someone who loved God, her family and her students. Leola taught Nutrition classes under Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Leolo’s passion expended beyond her job as a teacher. She often spent her Saturday’s volunteering at Turtle Creek Nursing Home engaging the residents in various activities such as arts & craft, playing games and music. She cooked many home cooked meals and donated gift bags during the holiday’s for the residents.

Leola was a devoted Christian, loyal wife, Mother, Grandmother, great-grandmother and a dedicated educator whose boundless love for God, family, friends and her students reflected in her daily life. Leola’s special interest include caring for her family, helping others in need, planting flowers and shopping.

On Friday, August 10, 2018 God called our beloved mother home to rest. In addition to her parents, Maggie and Bennie she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hamilton, Sr. on June 10, 2018; her son, Rickey Hamilton in 2000.

Leola is survived by her sons, Frank Hamilton, Jr. (Patrice) and Michael Hamilton; daughters, Linda Hamilton Powell (Randolph), Joyce Hamilton and Pamela James; grandchildren, Frank Hamilton, II, Rickey Hamilton Jr., Bryan Hamilton, Paul Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, Jr., Kelly Hamilton, Christopher James and Randolph Powell, Jr.; her beloved sister, Louise Henry of Elyria, Ohio; her precious and beloved cousin, Jessie Mae Wright; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God help us to remember all the important values our parents instilled in us. They taught us who God was and still is. They taught us how to look beyond the impossible and to always keep God first. Our lives will forever be changed, but our parents will never be forgotten. We love you Mom and Dad.

The funeral service for Leola Hamilton will be held 1PM, Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church 3026 Woodlawn Road. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00PM, Friday, at the mortuary. Interment in Edgewood Cemetery. Please sign the family guest book and view the video tribute @ www.tswarden.com.
